Last weekend playing my game ‘Jane Austen’s Sweethearts’ with members of my family didn’t turn out as I had expected. The cards dealt to me had lots of promise but none of that promise was realised. I waited for cards that just didn’t turn up. At one stage I threw out Reverend Morland only to pick up Mrs Morland on my next turn. The same happened with the Prices.
At the end of the game my daughter had a record-breaking score of 185 points. My grandson scored more than 100 and my other daughter 50+. I was still waiting for my first couple so my score was 0 points! Scoring zero was a humbling experience in a game of my own invention! So it really is a game of chance!!
We were trying out my re-written rules as I had come to the realization that they could be improved. When you have been closely working on a project for some time and know it so well, it can be difficult to see it clearly from a newcomer’s viewpoint so my focus has been to simplify and clarify the rules.
This week the revised rules have been posted out to everyone who ordered online so you should have them soon. If you bought my game elsewhere, at a bookshop or the Jane Austen Festival in Canberra, then I do not have your address. If you email me that information at firstname.lastname@example.org then I can post them to you. Hopefully my game will be even more enjoyable than it was before.
